Happy Friday my lovely readers! I was wondering this morning... who started the trend of shaving your legs? I mean really, who found that necessary!? Upon some research, I found a few interesting historical facts about beauty. Take a look! :)
- Ancient Egyptians used copper and lead ore to create the world's first cosmetics. - The women of Rome used to use burnt matches to darken their eyes and berries to stain their lips. - Curvy and busty said ideal beauty during the Renaissance. - Upper class ladies in Norther Europe plucked their hairlines to make their foreheads seem higher. - Queen Elizabeth set a trend to use powder to whiten skin and red haired wigs. - 1920's, women started plucking their eyebrows. - WWII with fashions of shorter hemlines and sheer stockings brought shaving your legs into style. - 1940's brought tanned skin into fashion. - 1960's, skinny became the standard of beauty.
And we all know what today's fashions are. You know, sometimes I wish I lived long ago when my plumpness would be found simply lovely. But oh well. At least I don't have to pluck out my hairline! Ouch! Thank you Lord.
Here's a song for your weekend!
Keep those smiles on and enjoy your weekend! Until next time!
"For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others." ~ Sam Levenson
"Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone." ~ Dorothy Parker
"Beauty and femininity are ageless and can't be contrived, and glamour, although the manufacturers won't like this, cannot be manufactured. Not real glamour; it's based on femininity." ~ Marilyn Monroe
Happy Thursday! I'm doing great with posts this week huh! ;) Yes I will take any applause or chocolate you choose to give.
Today's wish list item is this cookbook! Just take a look at this!!!
I mean... a Jane Austen cookbook?! What could be more epic than that!!!!! Check out the summary!
Jane Austen wrote her novels in the midst of a large and sociable family. Brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances were always coming and going, which offered numerous occasions for convivial eating and drinking. One of Jane’s dearest friends, Martha Lloyd, lived with the family for many years and recorded in her “Household Book” over 100 recipes enjoyed by the Austens. A selection of this family fare, now thoroughly tested and modernized for today’s cooks, is recreated here, together with some of the more sophisticated dishes which Jane and her characters would have enjoyed at balls, picnics, and supper parties. A fascinating introduction describes Jane’s own interest in food, drawing upon both the novels and her letters, and explains the social conventions of shopping, eating, and entertaining in late Georgian and Regency England.
Want!!!!....... Okay I'll quit drooling. Here's your song. :)
Enjoy your Thursday and keep those smiles on! Until next time!
